Difference Between Pottery and Porcelain
Humans only knew how to fire low-temperature pottery at first, and then gradually learned to fire high-temperature porcelain. "Pottery", in a broad sense, refers to all ceramics, that is, to all kinds of products formed and fired from clay or clay mixtures. "Porcelain" refers to products fired at higher temperatures. The usual customary method means that the green body contains high iron oxide content, which is dark red, and the firing temperature is below 1250 ℃. The green body contains less iron oxide and is white, and the firing temperature is above 1250 ℃. Some people distinguish it by knocking sound, water absorption of green body, light transmittance, etc. However, in truth, it is difficult to make a clear distinction between pottery and porcelain.
